Our Story - Rod Dawson

Our family company have been building "Granny flats" for over 25 years when in the year 2000, Managing Director Rod Dawson, recognised the market was looking for something more. He developed the "Garden Cottage" concept taking the granny flat into the new millennium.

The Victorian Garden Cottages range provides a new style of living with all the comfort and interior features of a comfortable modern home, but able to be built in the backyard of family members. In 2001, Rod Dawson launched a Display Centre in Greensborough, and the business took a new direction. Subsequent growth and further expansion saw a second display centre open in 2006 at 50 Maroondah Highway, Croydon.

During 2008, the company recognised the need to introduce a whole new range of designs in response to the ever changing demands of customers. To co-inside with this, a new display centre has now opened at 101 Bell Street Preston, showcasing a selection of these new designs. Victorian Garden Cottages is now proud to have more options and cottage styles on display than any other builders in this sector of the market.

A Victorian Garden Cottage provides independence, privacy, modern conveniences and small home comfort. Cottages are low maintenance compared with a three-bedroom house with garden. The peace of mind of having family near when illness and frailty comes is something many older folk appreciate.
